Assessment

The Southern
California Assessment Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
does take referrals from School Districts (per a mandate in
the Ed Code) to do in-depth assessments of deaf and hard of
hearing children. Any school district representative interested
in having a child referred for assessment can contact the Assessment
Center secretary, for a referral packet (951-782-6542). Parents
can request the referral from their school district. Assessment
services are also available to all students who attend CSDR.

The Deaf
Services Program provides a wide variety of services to deaf
children and parents who reside in Los Angeles County. Services
are delivered in ASL by professionals who understand the unique
needs, strengths, values and culture of the deaf client and
families with deaf children and/or parents. Outpatient services
include individual, family and group treatment for child victims
of physical and sexual abuse and neglect, as well as those at
risk. Additional services of mental health treatment, crisis
intervention and client advocacy are provided. Psychiatric
evaluations are available as needed. Home based services, In-home
Perinatal services and parent education classes are also offered.

Our prevention
and intervention programs have had widespread impact, including
our nationally recognized self-defense training program and
the In Touch With Teens relationship violence prevention curriculum.
These programs reach underserved and high-risk women, teens
and children, those who are Deaf, homeless, elderly, physically
or developmentally disabled and recent immigrants. We believe
that no one need face the crisis of personal violence alone
and that sexual and domestic violence is preventable.
