  • Proposal to the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services for a specialized Deaf Unit. Presented and accepted in June 1992.
  • Proposal to Los Angeles County Dependency Court to establish specialized court rooms for the Deaf Community. Presented and accepted in September 1992.
  • Provision of In-Service training to DCFS child abuse hotline staff, MacLaren Children’s Center staff, Dependency court judges and court personnel on the special needs of the Deaf Community.
  • ACADC filed a Section 504 Complaint with the Department of Social Services Office of Civil Rights, against the emergency shelter facility, MacLaren Children’s Center, for failing to provide deaf children in residence full accessibility.

  • Child Abuse Council of the Year, 1993, awarded by the California Consortium to Prevent Child Abuse.
  • ACADC provided training to the child abuse hotline in use of the TTU number for reporting child abuse.
  • ACADC held regular meetings to establish a strong network of service providers in the field of child abuse prevention and treatment.
  • ACADC became a member of the Los Angeles Community Child Abuse Coordination Project, which is comprised of all 13 child abuse councils in Los Angeles County. The LACCACP provided the council with support, participation in child abuse prevention activities and grant opportunities for special projects.
